WRITERS THAT MADE ME WANT TO BE A WRITER: ROBERT BLOCH (1917-1994)

Most famous as the author of PSYCHO, a master of horror and the macabre. As a youth, he corresponded with H.P. Lovecraft and wrote many stories in the Cthulhu Mythos. He penned fantasy stories for Weird Tales before Hitchcock bought his novel PSYCHO and ushered in his new career as a screenwriter for ALFRED HITCHCOCK PRESENTS, THRILLER and many Amicus anthology films like ASYLUM and THE HOUSE THAT DRIPPED BLOOD. In my childhood, I devoured his stories — ‘YOURS TRULY, JACK THE RIPPER.’ ‘THE SKULL OF THE MARQUIS DE SADE,’ ‘ENOCH,’ and most memorably ‘THAT HELL-BOUND TRAIN.’ He was the most gifted of tales-spinners. I was fortunate enough to meet him once. I’ll always cherish the memory.
As he said; “Despite my ghoulish reputation, I really have the heart of a small boy. I keep it in a jar on my desk.”
